What are the Myths About Community Acupuncture?
There's a lot of confusion when it comes to Community Acupuncture and the practice of acupuncture. Today we're going to try and clarify some things.
There are three major fallacies:
- Community Acupuncture Cost Less = Lower Grade Treatment
- Have to Acupuncture Locally
- All Acupuncture Treatments are the Same
Myth 1 - Community Acupuncture cost less, therefore, its a lower grade treatment
At Wuji Xuan Life Wellness' community acupuncture clinic, our clients receive the same standard of professional treatments as a standard private acupuncture session. Within a Community Acupuncture session, you'll receive a customized acupuncture treatment based on your diagnosis & complaint. In a 1 on 1 setting, you'll receive all the above as well as more. Therapies such as cupping, gua sha, and tuina maybe used augment the acupuncture treatment. The reason why community acupuncture costs less is due to economies of scale. Being able to treat multiple patients allows us to lower the overall cost per person without reducing the effect of each person's individual session.

Myth 2 - in acupuncture you have to use the needle near the area of concern
There are several schools/systems in acupuncture and the acupuncturist is often related to their own studies and training beyond the minimum requirements of regulatory examination.
While we agree that localized treatments can provide relief, sometimes, we find treatments needling the arms and legs can deliver better results because it can work on various issues using the understanding of meridian channels, five elements, and other factors that can relate to a specific issue.
Myth 3 - all acupuncture treatments are the same
Acupuncturists, like any profession, have different levels of expertise. Talk to the acupuncturist to get a sense of what they really understand. If they can't explain beyond direct relation of symptom to acupoint then you may need to think twice. The difference between an average acupuncturist and a great acupuncturist lie in their ability to understand Traditional Chinese Medicine theories and ability to utilize them towards customized a more holistic treatment for the patients.
