Did you know there is Acupuncture For Depression?

Most traditional depression should not primarily be treated with Acupuncture, but Acupuncture can greatly assist therapies such as counseling and psychiatry when done together.

What is Depression

  • Shen injuries ( the Big Shen, Universal Consciousness)
  • Shen = Spirit / Consciousness

That word is complicated…

For the purpose of this article.. Shen is the ability to form an idea and then direct the word [emotional body], and Qi [ the physical energy] towards that idea. Wounds to Shen disrupt the ability to direct actions to physical manifestation. In English, they destroy your ability to act in the world which should sound very much like Depression.

How Acupuncture helps with Depression

  • Wounds to Shen disrupt the emotional and physical body as well
  • Normally, acupuncture and qigong use cultivation of energy and flows to purify and increase a person’s Shen.

Acupuncture increases flow of qi. It leads to a purification of the emotional body via the 5 organs, which leads to a naturally more presence of a shen. If a person has a more active Shen, we might see them as having more willpower or more able to act in the world. If they have less access to Shen, they may be unable to do things in the world. Lack of motivation, self-doubt, inability to connect with others all are typical problems depression causes and reflect in TCM an inability to move energy around in the world.

Acupuncture moves the physical energy (Qi) around that forces the stagnant energy to move to. If both the physical energy and energy in the five organs moves, people will become more centered and will find the events of their situation just bother then less and less. The natural consequence is depression starts to dissipate while the Shen becomes more and more present. The movement of body energy helps to facilitate the healing process of the original wound. In Qigong it is possible to distill this process and expedite it.

What Physically Happens:

With more energy flow, this will increase the circulation of blood. “Qi is the commander of blood, blood is the mother of qi”

Emotions are stored in the organs. Lungs are about letting go. The heart stores the shen. Shen is in the blood. Doing acupuncture will stimulate blood circulation via the acupuncture points.
